Sakai - LTI External Tool

(for LMS admin)

  1. Log in to Sakai as an Administrator.

  2. Navigate to the course needing integration (you may want to use a test course first, if available - steps will be unchanged using a test course).

  3. Select Site Editor on the left side menu once on the course as Admin or Instructor.

  4. Select External Tools tab in the middle of the new page.

  5. Select Install LTI Tool on upper right (under the Help icon).

  6. Enter the following (leave all else as default):
    • Tool name: Aktiv
    • Button Text: Aktiv
    • Launch URL: The Launch URL that you got from Aktiv
    • Launch Key: The Consumer Key that you got from Aktiv
    • Launch Secret: The Consumer Secret that you got from Aktiv
    • Send Usernames to External Tool: Checked
    • Send Email Addresses to External Tool: Checked
    • Allow External Tool to return Grades: Checked
    • Allow this tool to be launched as a link: Checked
    • Launch in Popup: Always
    • Save above settings
  7. Back in Site Editor, select Manage Tools
    • Enable “Lessons as a tool”
    • In Customize Tool Instances, name the Lesson Aktiv
    • Hit Continue and then Finish.
  8. Aktiv will now appear on the left menu. Select it.

  9. Select Add Content on the next page and choose Add External Tool

  10. Select Aktiv from the next page and hit Save in the popup.

  11. The Aktiv external tool link should now show up in the middle of the page. Hit the paper and pencil edit icon on the left of the Aktiv tool.

  12. Under How should it be displayed? Select New Window and Update Item.

  13. The tool is now configured. To check if it is working properly, now click the Aktiv external tool link on the page you are on. A login or course creation page should appear.
